Being 90!

I just spent the Fourth of July weekend in Seattle with my Aunt who turned 90 years old.  I saw cousins and other family, most who I haven’t seen in 10 years.  Plus lots of kids including several I had never met.  It’s funny how being around people who you’re related to and don’t frequently see can change your perspective.  There’s a history with family that sometimes in your day to day life you forget about.  At one point, we played a trivia game of questions about my Aunt’s life and growing up and living in Chicago.  Then we got into other things including questions about my parents.  It’s strange how the dates of when things happened fade when the people aren’t with you anymore.  Besides the thrill of catching up on lots of details of each others lives, it was so cool to see the hundreds of old photos that my Aunt had collected through the years, as well as her old photo albums.  Talk about memory lane.  It was simply wonderful.  It was a great way to spend this holiday weekend and my hope is that we all get together again a lot more frequently.  Below is the poem I wrote to honor my Aunt’s Birthday.
Still diligently working on the poetry book that is a 10th Anniversary Tribute to 9-11.  Poems seem to come daily and in the next few weeks I should be ready for the editing process and having it formatted into the book layout.  I’ve had others read some of the poems and they are finding them quite moving and powerful.  My hope is that others will find something in this book that will help with the healing process from the tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001.  I’m finding people who are still dealing with this tragedy on a very deep and painful level.  An end of August/early September launch date is in the works; when I have the exact date, I’ll post it for everyone.
Three other books seem to be forming, but temporarily are waiting for my attention to shift back to them: one for kids, one for family, and Bring Poetry to Spirit.  On the workshop front I am making progress and plan to have it ready to go by the end of this month.  I’m delighted with the progress of everything I’m doing and know their time is upon us and that they will come to fruition soon.
Hope all is well for you.  Until next time, have a wonderful and joyous time!

Have Walked the Earth

Have Walked the Earth
For 90 Years
Shared lots of joy
And some tears

Touched the lives
Of so many
Family and Friends

Radiant smile
Shines on others
Brings on a grin
From deep within

Gentle wisdom
Guiding light
Even darkness
Becomes bright

Cherish all
You’ve given us
Precious feelings
Forever love
