Carol Calkins, Poet, Poetry, Poems, Bring Poetry to Life, Freedom, into your life

Carol Calkins, PhD has devoted over 30 years toward her management career in the healthcare and higher education professions.  Alongside her wonderful husband Mike she lives in beautiful Colorado.  Since her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters, Katrina, Ray, Alexxa and Makayla Dorow are now living in Colorado.

From a personal tragedy, the loss of a dear friend to breast cancer, Carol began her journey as a poet and author as reflected by her first four books, Bring Poetry to Life, Bring Poetry into Your Life, Bring Poetry to SpiritBring Poetry to Freedom, and Bring Poetry to Heart. She also wrote a chapter in the book, Speaking Your Truth, Volume 2, describing how her path through life including all the ups and downs contributed greatly to finding her gift of poetry. Carol now lives every day with an open mind and open heart; observing and listening to who and what’s around her.  From this perspective, she has the ability to grasp the deep thoughts and feelings of others and their circumstances and translates them into amazing poetry filled with great meaning and valuable lessons. Carol has found her passion is to create a story, paint a picture, express emotions through words in a manner that everyone can relate to.  She has discovered that she has a gift that eloquently expresses throughout her poetry.

HeartPoems were inspired by a friend who had a wonderful idea for someone who was turning 50. She sent out small cards and envelops to dozens of people so they could write a short note of best wishes for the birthday celebration. Carol wrote an original poem. Soon after she began inserting special poems on cards into greeting cards. The response from those who received them was wonderful! Thus, the idea for HeartPoems was born. Given individually or the entire set will touch the hearts of those you hold dear. The set of 24 beautifully designed cards with inspiring poems written by Carol are a wonderful gift for any reason and all seasons.

Hi Carol, I have been thinking about you quite a bit lately. How are you and how is your family? STeve and I are retired now and live on a little farm down in the Ozarks in a hollow between McClurg and Brownbranch – so small, no post offices. We have 2 and 1/2 grandkids from Brad (Steve’s boy) an John has finally settled down with his new wife (at 30) in MInneapolis where we lived for 15 years before I retired from the Army and moved down here. Since 2001 I have been working as a psychotherapist for the Army with deployed Soldiers and their families. It took me a full two years to settle into retirement – I love the idea that you are writing poetry. You always had a poet’s soul. Drop me a line if you get a chance. Always, susan
